Josh Turner was onto something when he sang Why Don’t We Just Dance in his deep, sexy voice. The chorus sings, “Guess the little bitty living room ain’t gonna look like much / When the lights go down and we move the couch / It’s gonna be more than enough.” My husband and I gave Josh’s idea a shot last Saturday night.
We love to dance at weddings and other dancing occasions, but it just seems like the occasions for dancing just don’t come around that often. That’s why the mister and I decided to take matters into our own hands. Sure, we had to move the baby gym
and the adorable kiddie swimming pool
filled with blocks
, but the old hardwood floors in our new house were perfect for the event.
After we prepped the room and made ourselves a couple drinks, we sat down to build a playlist together on Spotify. We already had a base to pull songs from since we made the playlist we used for our wedding dance. My man and I took turns adding songs to the queue. He added mostly swing dancing songs and a few numbers he could lip sync in his adorable, ridiculous manner. I snuck in a few oldies that would have been played at our high school dances. Once there was about a half hour of songs lined up, we pushed play!
We seriously had a great time dancing together, right there in the living room. I can’t remember a night in quite a while that we’ve had such a good time. We had to stay reasonably quiet, but it was a really fun evening. I was smiling and laughing so much the whole night that my cheeks hurt. It was like Barbie at the end of Toy Story 2.
If you want to give this a try in your own living room, I’ve got a couple suggestions for you.
I was already wearing a dress because I was at a baby shower earlier in the day and it just made me feel fancy. If you’ve got curtains, maybe try wearing something that you would only wear for your lover. It is always fun to feel sexy!
Try out a new dance move (or a few!).
When we do this again I will suggest learning a new move and practicing it throughout the night. It will pad our dance move arsenal for the next big event and help us bond by learning something new together. Here are a few fun swing moves
Print out my free printable and give it to your man in advance. Anticipate your fun night. Think of songs you would want on your list. Maybe checkout some new moves on YouTube. Spur of the moment is awesome, but there is something about the anticipation that can make a good night even better.

My sweetheart and I don’t get out much now that we have our little one, but we are still determined to keep our love alive. Options for date nights at home can seem limited, but if we can do it (with creaky floors and only half a wall in baby’s room) you can too! Try this out and let me know how it goes. If you want some song inspiration check out this Spotify playlist.
